Whether you’re a business man on the go, meeting deadlines, and taking trips across the country. A stay at home mom with little ones needing your constant attention or older ones needing your chauffeur services. A student with papers to write and social obligations to fill. Stress can easily take a hold of your life and cause unnecessary upset and feelings of being overwhelmed and overworked! Here are five tips to help you release that stress quickly:
1- Stop, take three deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth. As you breathe in thank God for one thing with each breath. As you breath out, release a worry of the day to God.
2- Start your day with five minutes of alone time with God (or add it in whenever you can!). Find a verse to focus on as you just relax for a little while and think on the verse (I’ve added three of my favorite stress busting ones below).
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:22
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
3- Get outside. Nothing calms me down as quick as spending a few minutes outside breathing in the fresh air. I think God did that on purpose!
4- Give someone a hug. Did you know a hug releases a burst of the hormone oxytocin? Oxytocin has all sorts of benefits for a healthy mind and body! It helps to reduce stress by lowering blood pressure and heart rate. Isn’t God awesome?
5- Count your blessings. How have you already seen God work today? Stop and think about it. If you can’t see Him active in your life, pray that He’ll open your eyes to see the ways He is working.
